IMO it has to be the Cubs. Those guys are incredible, but Prior has to stay healthy.

The Athletics have 3 young 20 game winners on their staff, the cubs have zero, the Athletics could basically start Mulder Zito and Hudson plus omar daal and paul abbott and still be much better than the cubs. add in the fact that Baker is brutal on arms and the advantage is clearly for the Athletics.

So you think that the Cubs pitchers arent capable of winning 20 games? I like Zito, Mulder, and Hudson, but to say that they are MUCH better is inaccurate. Prior, Wood, Maddox, Clement, and Zambrano are easily on the same level as the A's starting rotation, above their level in my opinion. And who do the A's have in the pen? Rhodes and Rincon..LMAO!! If the starter is out the A's are done, that pen is garbage. The Cubs have Borowski, Dempster, Hawkins, Mercker and Remlinger. Hell, Dempster would be the #4 pitcher on the A's. There is no way the A's are better top to bottom. The top 3 is very close, with the edge to the A's, but after that it's not even close, it's the Cubs in a landslide.

Sox have 2 of the best pitchers in the MLB, one of the best closers, and like 3 other starters who would be aces on most teams. Astros great pitching roation cause of the depth of their pitchers, but #1 guy is Oswalt so that kept them from being #1. Also, Cubs pitchers are to inconsistent in my eyes. Wood can throw a 2 hitter then next game be pulled in the 2nd and they dont have much outside him and Prior.

Right now, it's the Red Sox. The A's, Astros and Cubs all have weak bullpens while the Sox have a very good bullpen. Also, they have 2 of the best pitchers in baseball in Schilling and Pedro. Lowe, BK Kim and Wakefield are all solid no.3 starters. Maddux is way past his prime and Zambrano and Clement are very shaky, so the REd Sox take the nod.

The cubs don't have anyone who has won 20 games, the Athletics have three pitchers who have done it in the last few years. Clement is hot and cold add to that Prior is injured and Woods history of injuries and I don't think the Cubs have a rotation that is even close to the Athletics. Perhaps someday one of the Cubs pitchers will win 20, but so far none of them have. As for the Soxs great bullpen , Timlin and Embree can't be anyones idea of great bullpen staff (Foulke certainly is) and bullpen depth is something of an issue since they had a utility player pitching the other day (Mcarthy)

Without a doubt the Cubs. But they need Prior to stay healthy for the pitching staff do really be effective.
