I think so, especially at the beginning of the game. I get sick of seeing a leadoff hitter get on and remain at first...have some b***s and steal, then bunt him to third so you can get the sac fly RBI and let your best hitter swing for the fence. I dont see how the proliferation of HRs made small ball less viable either. In fact, its better economics as basestealers and doubles hitters generally make less than HR hitters. Think about it. Youve seen a variety of teams use this over the years most notably the Cardinals of the mid 80s as well as the Twins of recent and it got results so then why are more teams not going after this and consulting Whitey Herzog?

i think they should play smallball more often. Who was the last team to win the world series who also had the leading hr hitter? none that i can remember. Padres are doing a good job of this, this year, but cant hit when the guy acutally gets on second lol.
